Horse sanctuary

The municipality of Cabanelles is a territory historically occupied by small settlements, where there is a mosaic of young wooded areas, pasture areas and a succession of traditional farmhouses. The project consists of the creation of an animal sanctuary, a horse and environmental museum, and an equine wellness center. The project is understood as a demonstrator of the future, animal welfare, ecological systems and sustainability in all its aspects. The proposal develops different programs that will be complementary to the areas open to the general public for educational and conservation purposes. Different historic farmhouses are rehabilitated to recover the cultural heritage and the energy that was used to build the materials of the past. The main objective of the intervention is the rehabilitation of injured sports horses, to prepare them to return to competitions, and the healing of retired horses. The project also has an educational purpose, a scientific program is proposed to monitor the health of the forests and biodiversity in this area of the pre-Pyrenees.
