Tiny House

A tiny house that proposes big ideas, Tiny House demonstrates a full suite of green building techniques including: a photovoltaic electrical system; a rainwater collection and gray water recycling system; a composting toilet that harnesses a cultured microbiome to detoxify waste; passive conditioning strategies; insulation and membranes made from natural rubber and recycled cotton; and an easily removable frame and parametrically optimized skin made from locally harvested pine and oak, processed on site using digitally driven tools and secured to native quartzite foundations. Each wooden element of the primary structure is fully traceable and engraved with a QR code that communicates the location of the nearby tree it was milled from, as well as its embodied energy and sequestered carbon. The prototype therefore achieves a high standard of completely off-grid living for up to 14 days without water replenishment and up to 4 days without sun, while actively promoting the inhabitants’ awareness of their relationship with their general environment.
